The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, issued Executive Decree 257, with which he renewed the State of Exception for 30 more days in the provinces of: El Oro, Guayas, Santa Elena, Manabí, Los Ríos, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo, Pichincha and succumb. This provision would be given in order to combat insecurity and the high crime rates that are experienced in these sectors.
President Lasso allows the mobilization of the Armed Forces through the streets of these provinces «to complement the functions of the National Police for operational control in required areas of citizen security, internal protection, crime prevention and public order.»
In the same way, the military may carry out control, search and requisition operations in cases of carrying weapons and substances subject to control.
It should be remembered that Lasso tried to decree the State of Exception in the country on October 18, but with a duration of 60 days. Given this, the Constitutional Court (CC) ruled that its maximum duration of 30 days, since the National Government did not justify the reasons for it to last two months.
