According to the human rights organization, this is the 86th massacre perpetrated in this South American nation so far in 2021.
The event took place in the areas known as Bodega India and Vereda Cartucho, in the department of Guaviare, and at the time of its report, the identities of the victims were unknown.
An early warning from the Ombudsman’s Office indicates that in this rural area the irregular armed groups have increased, which implies more restrictions on the mobility of the population, forced displacement, threats, extortion and disappearances.
In this nation, the murder of social leaders, environmentalists, former guerrillas in reincorporation as well as massacres are constant, and it seems a chilling routine without any clarification.
During the year 2020, 91 massacres were perpetrated in Colombia that left 381 victims, figures that have increased from 207 onwards, according to figures collected by INdepaz and other organizations.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, points out that in 2017 there were 12 massacres with 49 victims; in 2018 there were 27, with 105 victims; in 2019 there were 35, with 113; and 91 in 2020 with a balance of 381 dead, among which there are minors and women.
