Mobile phone users warned about this fraud through social networks.
The Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcotel) warned that fraudulent international calls with the prefix 00226, corresponding to West Africa, are being received in the country.
The warning was generated by Arcotel after receiving several complaints from mobile phone users. Even on the night of this Thursday, June 25, the name of Burkina Faso became a trend on Twitter.
According to the entity, this type of irregular international telephone calls are intended to cause the receiving user to return the call and thus generate the cost for international telephone communication, an economic amount that is charged to their mobile phone bill or is deducted from the balance that keep on your phone plan.
In turn, the telephone companies also recommended not to answer or return calls to avoid being charged the value of international calls.
Arcotel explained that this fraudulent practice is called “Wangiri” and is carried out with the use of telecommunications infrastructure located abroad and can cause considerable economic damage to those users who return the international call.
