Judge Patlova Guerra’s decision motivated the Prefect of Pichincha to affirm that there is still justice in Ecuador.
The Prefect of Pichincha, Paola Pabon will review her pending work at the Provincial Council.
Pabon was released from the Chillogallo Trust Center at dawn on December 25. Hours later, she met again with former lawmaker Virgilio Hernandez and activist Christian Gonzalez, who both were released from prison four. This in compliance with the replacement of preventive measures issued by Judge Patlova Guerra, who ordered that they defend themselves in freedom.
Outside the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, the three prosecuted for the alleged crime of rebellion -carrying their electronic shackles- were happy that transparency had prevailed in their case.
In her first statements to the press, the official indicated that what happened is a sign that «in Ecuador, there is still justice.» She highlighted the respect for human rights but preferred not to refer to the measures that the Prosecutor’s Office intends to take regarding the resolution of Judge Guerra.
“We want a democratic state and have access to transparent justice and I think we could have it yesterday. Today, more than ever, we have the confidence that we are doing the right thing,” said Pabon. She also told the press that she will continue to pay attention to the poorest people.
Meanwhile, Hernandez said that his electronic shackle will become a symbol of dignity for the dead and injured during the October protests.
