Resident doctors at public hospitals in Haiti began a work stoppage on Wednesday in protest of the murder of renowned pediatrician Ernest Pady when they tried to kidnap last weekend in the capital of the Caribbean country.

The protest is joined by the hospitals of the State University of Haiti, the La Paix University, and the Justinien of Cap Haitien, as well as the Port-au-Prince sanatorium and the Isaïe Jeanty and Léon Audain maternity wards, which will keep their doors closed until new notice, although emergency services will be available.

Ernest Pady, 63, died last Sunday after a frustrated kidnapping attempt in front of his private clinic, as recently confirmed by the Justice of the Peace, Lionel Dragon, who said that four casings were found at the crime scene, while the doctor received a projectile to the head.
