Ecuador loses USD 561.960 due to error in printing presidential ballots

The National Electoral Council of Ecuador reported that it will destroy more than 6 million ballots due to this error.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) recognized that there was an error in the printing of more than six million presidential ballots. A logo that did not correspond to the Amigo movement was included on the ballots. Given this, the agency indicated that the ballots will be destroyed, which would cause a loss of USD 561,960 for the State, the unit cost per ballot is USD 0.090.

The president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, spoke about this issue and confirmed that the ballots printed with the wrong logo will be destroyed and the printing of that document will be restarted, with the respective change, for which it is already working with the Military Geographical Institute ( IGM).

In the same way, she asserted that it is a serious error, which cannot be ignored, so they proceeded to «separate the responsible officials.»

The National Electoral Council offered to correct the error and assured that the February 7 elections are not suspended.

According to data from the CNE itself, as of January 13, more than 47% of the presidential ballots had been printed; that is, more than 6 million, since the electoral roll for this year exceeds 13 million people.
