FLIP demanded that the authorities investigate this case quickly, and they also demand «justice for Felipe.»
The Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) reported that Colombian journalist Felipe Guevara died on Wednesday afternoon as a result of the attack he suffered last Monday in the city of Cali, capital of the southwestern department of Valle del Cauca.
FLIP explained in its Twitter account that the worker of the newspaper Q’hubo, where he covered the judicial source, lost his life due to complications from the bullet wounds he received at the hands of a hit man on December 21 in eastern Cali.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) demanded the clarification of the crime of the journalist, who was 27 years old.
«We reiterate the demand for the authorities to investigate this case promptly and impartially.»
The mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, revealed at a press conference that Guevara had already denounced since 2017 «threats against his life that were directed to the competent authority.» The official offered a reward equivalent to $ 15,000 to anyone who provides information about the perpetrators of the crime.
The United Nations Office for Human Rights in Colombia issued a tweet to reject the “murder of Felipe Guevara, from Q’Hubo, #Cali. Freedom of the press is one of the pillars of democracy and the murder of a journalist weakens it. «
«We urge a prompt and effective investigation that leads to punish those responsible,» demanded the international entity.
The Q’hubo newspaper in Cali published on its Twiiter account: «Rest in peace Felipe Guevara, our judicial journalist, died this Wednesday afternoon after being wounded in an attack on Monday night.»
«We ask that his soul find peace and that in the heart of his family there be tranquility,» concluded the tweet of the Colombian newspaper.
The Police, meanwhile, reported that together with the Prosecutor’s Office a team of investigators was created to clarify the crime.
